  • Pamphlett, Finnegan and Parsons were shipwrecked on on Moreton island. The Noonucals at Amity Point cared for them for 6 weeks.

  • In June Menjieriba was renamed Stradbroke Island.

  • A cotton plantation began in Moongalba. Soon after it began it was abandoned.

  • Clashes between the Aborigines and Europeans occurred (10 or more).

  • 4 missionaries set off to Dunwich to convert aborigines.

  • Dunwich was proclaimed as Moreton Bays quarantine station.

  • The quarantine station was closed but continued to be used for the following decade, if needed.

  • The Dunwich Benevolent Asylum was set up to house Moreton Bays elderly and homeless.

  • Billy North was granted a lease over Point Lookout. For 40 years he ran cattle. At one stage he supplied beef to the Asylum.

  • Moreton Bays oyster fisheries were being destroyed by an outbreak of mud worms.

  • The Prosperity sank off Point Lookout on its way from Sydney with sugar.

  • Point Lookouts first tourism began in the 1930’s, when Bert Clayton bought land above south gorge.

  • The Point Lookout lighthouse was built.

  • A ferry service for vehicles began and the first surf lifesaving patrols began.

  • Zinc Cop. Began mining on Stradbroke Island, the first shipment left the island in 1950.

  • Consolidated Rutile mining began on the island.

  • Barge Lookout began operating between Cleveland and Straddie.
