    The first "network" experience! Larry Roberts conducted an experiment in the MIT Lincoln Lab that connected two computers and had them interact with each other.
  • The start of Email

    In 1972, the first email was sent from a man by the name of Ray Tomlinson. The "@" symbol was used to seperate the name of the user and name of the network. The image to the left is of Ray Tomlinson and his famous "@" character.
  • "Internet" was Introduced

    The term "Internet" is very important 'now-a-days'. The term itself was first introduced in 1982.
  • DNS

    DNS
    1984 marked the year of DNS. DNS, or "Domain Name System" gave websites a web address with a suffix extension like ".com", ".org", or ".edu".
  • Archie

    "Archie" was first created in 1990 by Peter Deutsch of McGill University. Archie was an FTP site archive that was used to index the Internet. This was referred to as the first search engine.
  • Yahoo!'s new...

    What used to be entitled "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" was changed in 1994 to "Yahoo!" Yahoo will receive 100,000 visitors and in 1995 it first started showing advertisements.

    AmazonThe man behind the web-based store that will "pioneer ecommerce" was Jeff Bezos when he first introduced Amazon.com in 1995. Amazon started out as a web-based bookseller, however has grown to selling many different products.

    I can't contribute 1996's greatness solely to my birth, but also to the start of the Browser War! Microsoft now starts to integrate Internet Explorer with Windows. Microsoft and Netscape are now at battle and each company is frantically rolling out new upgrades to make their products just that much better!
  • Google's debut!

    Now this was a great year! 1998 marked the year of Google's birth. The simple design of Google made it a positive over other search engines as they were flooded with advertisements.
    Google was incorporated on September 4, 1998 with founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
  • Napster

    Napster arrives in 1999 with creator Shawn Fanning right behind it. Napster allowed users to share mp3 files using a computer-based application. The data was transferred over the web. Record companies were furious at this and by 2001 had effectively shut down Napster. Napster has made its return in recent years, but is in the form of a "paid" service, not to ruffle-the-feathers of record companies.

    570,000,000 was the lucky number in 2001! That's the number of sites on the World Wide Web. This could be contributed to the fact that broadband Internet access enters the mainstream.
  • Napster re-appears!

    After being shut-down by powerful record companies, Napster has re-appeared as a "paid service", web based, which will share mp3 music files. Napster had re-appeared with the emerging technology of high-speed broadband Internet. Napster now has to compete with iTunes, Apple's music download store.

    Mark Zuckerberg launches Facebook in the year 2004. Facebook has many milestones to accomplish in the future.

    Here's my Flickr Page! :) Online photo sharing site Flickr was released. Flickr is a service maintained by Yahoo! and became popular with the up-roar of digital photography.
