Senator John C. Calhoun came up with the proposal that neither Congress nor Territorial government could ban or regulate slavery.

If Califonria was entered as a free state then slaveholders would be outvoted-If this happened then the Southerners would seced from the Union.
  • Compromise of 1850 continued

The effects of this may have helped lead to the Civil War because of how the South wasn't happy enough to where they were considering seceding from the Union.
If the government made a decison against slavery the South would revolt and if they made a decison for slavery the North would revolt. Even with compromises they eventually get mad

  • Kansas Nebraska Act "Bleeding Kansas

    Kansas Nebraska Act "Bleeding Kansas
Kansas and Nebraska were likley to become free states but the Southerners would have ojected.

The Missouri Compromise was abandoned and the settlers in each territory to vote whether there should be slavery or not. This was called popular sovereignty.
  • Bleeding Kansas/ Kansas Nebraska Act continued

This could have helped lead to the Civil War by how the South didn't think they had enough votes for slavery so they charged into Kansas to make it a slave state and the North had the same idea which caused a competition and violence was inevitable.
