    Missouri Comprimise
    The Missouri Comprimise further divided the nation when Missouri was added to the South while Maine was added to the North. Also, the Missouri Comprimise prevented Slavery above the 36 30 line.

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner, an enslaved African American, revolted and killed 55 people, including women and children. In his interview, Nat Turner called himself a prohet and smart.

    David Wilmot, a Senator form Pennslyvania, proposed that all land gained from Mexico in the Mexican American war would be free.
  • Comprimise of 1850

    Comprimise of 1850
    Henry Clay's comprimise wanted California to become free, but every other territory could have slaves, and Washington D.C. would become a free territory. After a heated discussion, the answer was no. So Senator Stephen A. Douglas, from Illinois, split the bil up into 5 parts and each part was voted upon seperatly, in the end the bills passed and became the Comprimise of 1850

    Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
    The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 stated that all runaway slaves had to be returned to their owners if found. Also, anyone who aided a slave could be fined or put into prison.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    In the Kansas- Nebraska Act, Stephen A. Douglas proposed that the two new states would be vote on by the people living there through popular soveriengty. As a result, armed groups called border ruffians fought each other. The men wanting the states to be free fought with the people who wanted to the states to have slavery. The term known as Bleeding-Kansas was brought to life, and the term was that there was a the civil war.

    Dred Scott was an enslaved an African American, who moved to a free state. Becuase he lived there he claimed that he should be free, because he lived there for so long. But, the ruling was that Dred Scott was to go back to his master because the Constitution claimed the Scott was still property.

    John Brow's Raid on Harper's Ferry
    John Brown, an abolitionist, raided the arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His goal was to arm eslaved Aficans, and revolt against slave holders. Brown was defeated and stopped, ad hung. Some people saw him as a martyr.

    Lincoln's Election
    Lincoln was well liked by the Northerners, but loathed by the Southerners. On some southern ballots Lincoln's name didn't even show up, but because the North had so many more people he won the election. At the sound of this South Carolina seceed from the union and soon after Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia joined South Carolina to create the Confederate States of America.
  • Battle at Fort Sumter

    Licoln got news that the supplies at Fort Sumter were running thin, so he sent supplies. Fort Sumter was at the heart of the Confederacy in South Carolina. When President Jefferson Davis heard this he immediatly attacked Fort Sumter before the supplies could arrive. During the battle not a single life was lost but the Civil War had already started. As a result, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Arkansas joined the Confederacy.
