    This was a compromise made to keep the union intact by keeping the south from seceding. The compromise banned slave trade in Washinton D.C. and the Fugitive Slave Act was passed.

    The Fugitive Slave Act as a part of the Compromise of 1850 to allow the Southern slave owners to bring back run away slaves who had escaped to the north.

    The Kansas Nebraska Act was proposed in taking the palce of the Missouri Compromise becasue many slave states believed Kansas and Nebraska would likely become free states because of their position above the 36o30' Ladditutde line. So they proposed that the states vote by themselves.

    Dred Scott was an enslaved African American who was owned by an army doctor who moved his residence between free and slave states. when Scotts' owner died Scott sued for his freedom claiming he had lived in areas where slavery was banned. 11 years later Scott's case appeared before the Supreme Court where it was decides he was not a citizen and he had to ability to bring a lawsuit.

    John Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry
    John Brown had a plan to raid the federal arsenal so that freedom fighters against slavery would be able to have weapons. the raid lasted fewer than 2 days. The attack was stopped by colonel Robert E. Lee and was quickly charged of treason and murder and was sentenced to death.

    Lincoln's Election
    Lincoln was elected giving the north an advantage, this election was a large reason that contributed to the secession of the South. After Lincoln was elected many believed that " No human power can save the Union [now]."
  • Battle at Fort Sumter

    Battle at Fort Sumter
    Lincoln recived a message from the commander of the fort saying they were low on supplies. The fort was located in the southern territory and told the southern leaders that the ship would not engage unless fired upon leaving the choice of civil war up to the south. Jefferson Davis made the decicsion to fire and began what we know now as the Civil War.
