    Until this time mechanical work had been done by windmills,convict tredmills or animals. The steam engine was installed in John Dickson's flourmill at Darling Harbour. Today the area is know as Dixson Street, a misspelling if Dickson,'s name but a reminder of the Australias first steam engine.
