St Teresa Of Avila was born on the 28th of March 1515 in Avila, Spain. Her father , Alonso Sanchez de Cepedo, and her mother Beatriz Davilla Ahumada we both Catholics. St Tersa was a very religious child and took upon prayer very often, she also enjoyed givingn charity to the poor.

St Teresa of Avila was baptised on the 4th of April 1528 in St John's Church. Her Godfather was Vela Nunez and Godmother was Dona Maria del Aguila.

St Teresa of Avilas mother passes away when she was 14 years old. This leaves her in despair. During St Teresa's later teen years, she loses some of the piety and devotion she had when she was younger.

At the age of 16, St Teresa's father sent her to the Agustinian convent of St Mary of Grace, Avila. It was during her time here that she read the letters of St Jerome and was called to enter a religious life.

In 1535, St Teresa joined the Carmelite Order. She concentrated on devoting her time here on prayer and penance.

Shortly after this she bacame ill and also suffered from paralysis in her legs. She also fell into a coma. Despite thoughts that St Teresa was dead, she woke up on the fourth day and credited this to St Joseph.

After St Teresas illness, she slowly started to regain full use of her legs in 1542.

S Teresa developed a incredible progress in her religious life as she once again began the practice of mental prayer. St Teresa had been given a series of mystical experiences which would last for the next 20 years. She had been given ecstatic experience and visions. Under the guidance of her cofessors, she wrote down these experiences which which would later be completed a book.

During the mid 1550's, St Teresa of Avila began to write and autobigraphy of her life.

St Teresa did not respond to any of the medical treatment and fell into coma. She woke up on the fourth day. This cure was attributed to St Jospeh.

St Teresa begins to dicuss ideas about reforming the Caramelite Order. She could observe a lack and carelessnes in standards in comparison to the simple values on which they were founded. St Teresa found it her responsibility to correct the Lutheran teachings from those if the Catholic Church. It was after St Teresa had been given vision by Christ, that she felt inspired to reform Carmelite Order
Note: St Teresa was born into the period of time in which Martin Luther teachings were spreading. -
St Teresa of Avila makes a vow of greater perfection.
She has also been given the grace of transverberation. -
In June, St Teresa of Avila finished the draft of The LIfe and begins to write 'The Way of Perfection'.

In 1562, St Terea was granted permission from Pope Pius IV to found the the convenant of St Jospeh.

St Terea founded a reform convent for Caramelite men with the help of St John of the Cross. He soon became St Teresa's closest friend.
