The Whigs Party was formed out of the National Republican Party. The leaders of the group were John Quincy and Henry Clay. They were based in New England and New York. -
Democrats
Democrats were the successors of the democracy.They favored freedom and localism. They had a commitment to the states rights. -
Liberty Party
The liberty Party were against slavery. The Liberty Party was a politcal outgrowth. The conservatives formed the Liberty Party. -
Free Soil Party
It was the only party denounced. They apposed the admission of slave states. -
Republicans
They allowed slavery to spread to the Western states. They grew out of the resistance. They Resisted the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854. -
Constitional Union Party
It was an anti-extremist party. They joined joined the Democrats to block out the Republicans. John Bell was the leader of the group.
