    Frederich L v. Thomas (Philadelphia)
    The mother of Frederich L. in a class action suit complained that the District of Philadelphia didn't have a program or support for students with learning disabilities. The District felt that they had laws put in place to support special education students. The court found in favor of the plaintiff and that the students needed appropriate educations programs. This made sure that every child with a Learning Disability would be given the right to appropriate education like every student.

  • Marshall et. al. v. Georgia

    Marshall et. al. v. Georgia
    A Judge ruled that the overrepresentation of African Americans in special classes were not discriminatory. Lower socioeconomic conditions was the reason African American students were placed in programs not placed there due to discriminatory assessments or placement practices. This was the first court case that highlighted the need to include a measure of adaptive behavior within the classroom as part of determining mild intellectual disability.

  • Cedar Rapids Community School District v. Garret F.

    Cedar Rapids Community School District v. Garret F.
    Garret's mother requested that the school provide required services of a specialty trained nurse to assist him because of his health needs. The school believed that they were not liable under IDEA to provide continuous services. The Supreme Court stated that school district had to pay for the nursing services.This caused changes to "related services" to include health services.
