De Vaca was with Narves the conquistador in florida but after their ships leave thinking that the men had died. They build 4 barges and try to sail back to cuba but only 1 manages to get to Galveston in a gale. narvez dies. karawnkawa indians take in the spaniards and only 4 spaniards survive the winter. The four left decide to go to spanish settlement so they journey to through texas and mexico and get to mexico city. throughout there journey they heard of the 7 cities of gold.

De Soto was the original leader and he convinced the natives to think he was a god and died of fever so the spiards threw him in a river so the natives wouldn't get mad. he backs up coronado saying texas has nothing really there.

frar marcos and esteban journeyed to texas to confirm the seven cities of gold. Esteban was killed by indians and frar marcos saw a city that was filled with fools gold and this encouraged Coronado to explore the area.

looked for the 7 cities of gold. found the city frar marcos discovered but it wasn't it. fray de niza acted as a "guide" but told them about a "better" place known as Quivira. found nothing there so he ordered de niza to dig his grave and then strangled him and buried him there. he made spain not send any other expeditions (except de soto) for another 150 years. he explored from 1540 to 1542
