    Columbus set sail in 1492 to try and find a shorter route to India. This is important because they needed a shorter route for trade and the normal longer route was too dangerous. On October 12, Columbus and his crew stepped foot on land but it was not India. It happened to be the New World and he is given gredit for discovering it.

    In 1519, Pineda set sail to map the gulf coast and to search for gold. He thought that since there was a lot of gold in Mexico, that there would be some in the area above. He was wrong and came back almost empty handed.

    In 1519, Cortes set his sights on conquering the Aztecs in Tenochitilan.In 1519 he managed to conquer the Aztecs. This is important because conquering the Aztecs meant that he could have all of their riches so he brought alot of gold back to Spain.

    He was trying to sail back to Cuba but they got caught in a storm and sailed to Galveston. He was there for eight years and met the Karankawas and the Coahuiltecans.

    The purpose of the journey was to explore the seven citys of gold and to spread christianity. Esteban was killed by indians and fray Marcos reported seeing a city of gold.

    Coronado searched for Cibola and Quivera. His gude was an indian named El Turco who was later killed by Coronado. He discovered the Palo Duro canyon and the Grand Canyon. This is important because he found out there wasnt a gold city.
