    Columbus was looking for short cut to Asia. He actually found what we now know as North America and South America. This is important because he is the man who Sparked Exploration in the New World.

    He was looking for a passage to Asia from the gulf of Mexico. He lead several expeditions to the coastline, but never found the passage. He was the first to map the Mississippi River, first to step foot in Texas, and mapped Corpus Christi. He also mapped Florida. He sparked settlement to the Gulf Coast.

    Cortes's Came to the New World to look for gold. Once he got there he conquered the Aztec Empire, defeating their leader Montezuma.He brought back 6 mollion dollars worth of gold ,that made other people want to come explore the New World.

    DevaCa, after a long storm, some how ends up in the island of Galveston. He was here till 1537. He met the Karankawas, the Coahuiltecans, and the Jumanos.

    This expeditions's purpose was to get proof that the rumors of the 7 cities of gold is true. Esteban was killed by the Indians. The last thing they saw was Estaban running with arrows in him. Frar Marcos reported that the rumors were true, that there were 7 cities of gold.

    The leader was De Soto. He dies, so Moscoso took over for him. They were said to have discovered the Mississippi, but Pineda may have disocvered it befor him. He also concluded that Texas was useless.

    Frar marcos was the guide for the 7 cities and The turk was for Quivera. Frar marcos left, because he was scared of being blamed since there was no 7 cities of gold. The Turk lead them to a random city, where Cornado said to dig your own grave and I will kill you. he discoers Palo-Duro Canyon and the Grand canyon. He told the Spanish bad things about Texas, so it lead to a set back of exploration in Texas.
