    DeVaca reported hearing about the 7 Cities of Gold being a wonderful place, so Fray Marcus and Esteban went to search for it. Esteban was killed in a fight with Indians, and Fray Marcus suppossedly saw the 7 Cities of Gold. As a result, Coronado went to further search for it.

    Coronado's overall goal was to get gold. First, Coronado went to search for the 7 Cities of Gold (Cibola), He found it, but it turned out to be a small Indian Village. Then, he heard about Quivera, a city bigger than Mexico City, and was run by Amazon women. After searching four different states, he found another small Indian Village. At the time, he was considered a failure, but he discovered the Grand and Palo Duro Canyon, and explored four states. He reported that Texas was worthless.
