The purpose was to study the land to the North. Fray Marcos reported of seeing the most beautiful grand and golden city. He was killed by the Zunis for demanding their women and food. Coronado will be sent to find this city -

It was 1539-1542. The leader was De Soto. The purpose of to search for gold. He gave the same report that Coronado gave. Spain would not return for 150 years because of the reports. -

Coronado's expedition
It was 1540-1542. He was looking for the cities of gold for Spain. The two cities were Cibola and Quivera. He reported not to go to Texas that the land had some difficult Indians. With the report and Mosco's the Spanish did not return with any major expeditions for 150 years.
