Capture of Puerto Rico
In July 1898, the U.S. invaded Puerto Rico, which was one of Spain’s principal possesions. By August, the United States has secured Puerto Rico. When the armistice was signed, the island was given to the U.S. on October 18th. In December, the Treaty of Paris was signed and the war was ended, along with the U.S. gaining full control over Puerto Rico.
