The Aztecs were a hated empire but the other natives before the spaniards arrived. Cortes a Spanish explorer arrived a Tenochtitlan as an ally and eventually took over the Aztecs with other native groups. -

Hawikuh
The Spanish people stormed the city of Hawikuh in order to obtain food and gold/silver for hundreds of Mexican Indian auxiliaries they found along their travels. -

Encomienda System.
Laws are passed by the Spanish empire in attempt to protect Indigenous Populations who were in the encomienda system. -

Valladolid Debate
The Valladolid debate was the first moral debate in European history to discuss the rights and treatment of an indigenous people by European colonizers. -
1565
St. Augustine
Spain founded St. Augustine, which was one of the only colonies at the time, because of religion, and to thwart the French people who were attacking Spanish ships for gold and silver. -
Pueblos
After all the warfare and fighting between the Pueblo people and the Spaniards. Together they sustained a colony where the Spanish practiced restraint.
