Based in Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge was the name given to a Communist party. They focused on social change, but this usually resulted in the deaths of many people as medicine supplies were restricted. The Khmer Rouge were also known for killing anyone who opposed their rule.

North and South Vietnam united to become the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. A new constitution and other government reforms began on rocky footing.
