The first computer was invented in the 1940's. It was invented to make communication with others easily accessible

Sixdegrees.com was a way to connect with others by sharing photos and posts. "Six degrees also let users make friends with each other and expand their social groups. Users were able to send messages, post bulletin board items to others in first, second and third degree connections - hence the name" (Six Degrees Social Engine).

Wikipedia was created in 2001. "Its founding aim was to provide an online encyclopedia that allowed anyone to edit articles. It should not surprise you that it is the world's most popular general reference site on the web" (McFadden).

YouTube was where people could post, share and watch funny videos, listen to music and even watch movies

Facebook was the new and improved Sixdegrees. It allowed people to post pictures and videos, catch up with old friends and share content. It was a way for people to connect.

2006 was the year for social media. Twitter became another way for people to connect by posting "tweets" and sharing common interests.

Instagram was made for people to post photos of what they were doing. It wasn't till later on that videos and stories were added. "Instagram is launched and hits 1 million users by December. The selfie takes its first steps toward become the bane of humankind" (The history of social media).

Snapchat was made for sending pictures, videos and best friends. In 2011 Snapchat launched so people could send funny photos to their friends and see each others "best friends" meaning who you snap chatted the most.
