    The Indian act was made in 1867. This allows the government to control most aspects of aboriginal life for example the Indian status, land, resources and education.     The bill of rights was a law that was passed in 1960 after world war 2 by the federal government. (Kleitsch 8)This gave everyone in Canada their rights and freedoms, but the government would be allowed to change the law if they had a reason. People in Canada were given rights and freedoms but they did not like that people could change it.     Prime minister Trudeau`s corrections to the Criminal code got finalized and accepted and with this it decriminalized homosexuality in Canada. Myra
  • The white paper (Statement of the government of Canada on Indian policy)

    Was made by Jean Chrétien and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to “abolish previous legal documents pertaining to Indigenous peoples in Canada". The white paper was made to remove Indian as a legal status and to make the first nations people equal to Canadians. Also meant to get rid of the Indian act and treaties. Many of the first nations people felt that the document did not include their concerns. The aftermath of this was that Trudeau withdrew the white paper in 1970. (Sinclair) Noah

The charter protects Canadians against the state, and protects minorities against parliamentary majorities.
