The Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney created the cotton gin in 1793. It was made to take the seeds out of the cotton. It helped the slaves tremendously instead of picking them out by hand. -
Nat Turner
Nat Turner was born into slavery on October 2, 1800 and died on November 11,1831. He was convinced that his dreams and visions were telling him to kill white slaves. He resulted in at least 60 white deaths and 100 black deaths. He hid for a while but was later found and hung. -
Act Prohibiting Importation of slaves
This act enforced that no new slaves were to be imported into the U.S. Smuggling still happened until the end of the Civil War. -

Abraham Lincolon was born on Febuary 12,1809 and was assasinated on April 15,1865. Abraham made is first public action agains slavery on March 3,1837. He began antislavery and announced the Emancipation Proclamation. -

Frederick Douglass was born on Febuary 17,1818 and died on Febuary 20,1895. He escaped slavery and learned how tho read and write. He later made speeches and wrote in the newspapers to enourage others to fight against slavery. -
Araminta Harriet Ross
Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was born in 1820 and died on March 10,1913. She was best known as Harriet Tuban, Moses, or Minty. Harriet played a major roll in the Underground Railroad, helping African Americans to their freedom. -
Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 allowed each state to vote whether to allow slavery or not. It allowed to have so many free and slave states. -
Sugar Evaperation System
Norbert Rillieux invented the sugar evaporation system. It was designed to take the liquid part from the sugarcane more easily. Since he was an African American the plantatio owners didn't want to buy his invention. Soon they realized how useful it was they started buying it. -

Nebraska and Kansas wanted to be states. They had to choose if they wanted to be slave states or free states. This decision caused mayhem. -

George Washington Carver was born on January 1864 and died January 5,1943. He was known as "the miracle worker",because he learned how to diversify many crops in the south. -

Alexander Grahm Bell created the Box Telephone. He successfully created a device to recive and send sound clearly between Cambridge and Salem,Massachusetts. -
