    The Underground Railroad was used for slaves to escape from the south through the north to Canada. It was many paths that went through the Appalachian Mountains, swamps, and rivers like the Ohio and Mississippi. The slaves weren’t alone they had people to help them along the way like free men or women and escaped slaves.

    The Missouri Compromise started when Missouri wanted to be a slave state. The south thought that there should be slaves, but the north didn’t want there to be slaves. Missouri was just entering the US but they want to be a slave state because slaves are already there. The north didn’t want them to be a slave state because if they joined as a slave state then there would be more slave states then free states so the US created the 3630 line.

    Nat Turner's Rebellion is when slaves rebelled ageansted there owners to get freedom but the slave were captured and killed and so was Nat Turner. The rebellion was sopoust to help the saves but all it did was hurt them by giving them laws and killing more of them.

    The Compromise of 1850 had 5 parts to it. The first part stated that California will join as a free state. The second part stated that land gained from the Mexican American war gets to decide if they will have slaves or not. The third part stated that slaves could not be traded in Washington DC but slaves can still live there. The fourth part says that the Texas border dispute is settled. The fifth part says that any runaway slave has to be returned to the south.

    In this act the south wanted Kansas and Nebraska to be slave states but the north wanted them to be free states. The south said that they should get to vote if they want to be free or slave states. The north didn’t think it was fair that there were going to be more slave states then slave states. The south got what they wanted people were going to vote whether or not Kansas and Nebraska were going to be free or slave stats.

    Bleeding Kansas was when people from all over the world came to Kansas to vote for it to be a free or slave state. The north was mad at the north because they were scared that Kansas and Nebraska were going to become slave states so they stated a fight.

    The Dred Scott case started when a slave lived in a free state for 12 years and got married during that 12 years then his owner moved him back to the slave states. Not that long after he got back his owner died. So the family was sent out to other houses by the wife. They did this for 3 years then wanted their freedom so they took they her to court. The wife then decided to give them back to their previous owner. Then they got their freedom

    The Presidential Election of 1860 was about four candidates Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, John Breckinridge, and John Bell. It was Abraham Lincoln vs Stephen Douglas for the north and John Breckinridge vs John Bell. When the votes were in Abraham had won the election of 1860.

    The Attack on Fort Sumter happened when Lincoln had won the election of 1860. The south was mad no one in the south voted for him. They thought if they could join the states then they could leave them too so that’s what they did. One day Lincoln sent cargo to Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was surrounded by enemy forts. President Lincoln thought the forts belonged to the US. When the cargo ships went in to unload, the gun batteries all around them. That’s when the war started.
