There where many types people who helped the undergrownd railrode like, Conductors, railmansters, ect... there also was a lot of secret codes in the undergrownd railrod like, lights in the windos, carvings on trees, quilts, ect... the undergrownd railrode saved millions of people. I chose this date because Isaac T. Hopper, a Quaker, began a system for hiding and aiding runaway slaves in 1787, the start, and December 6, 1865 was when the 13th Amendment ending slavery was passed, the end.

    The Undergrownd Railrode was a system of secret rodes, trails, and people that healped slaves excape from the south to canada where they would be free. there where many people who helped make the undergrownd railrode posible, one of which was Harriot Tubman. She was one of the most famous people that worked on the undergrownd railrode. She healped over 200 slaves exape to freedom. She made 19-20 trips back to the south in only 10 years.This was very hard becouse of she was a run away slave her-

    Harriet Tubman

    Harriet Tubman was one of the most famous abolitionists. She took over 200 slaves to freedom and made at least 19 trips into the south. She was born a slave in 1820 in Maryland. She escaped when she was 29. She later then went back to the southern states to help escaping slaves. She bragged that in all of her 20 trips she never lost one slave. I chose this date because it is when she was born and when she died.

    The Missouri compromise is the compromise that said Missouri could be a slave state even thou it is north of the 36-30 line. This was made possible because main joined the union as a free state at the same time, so the balance of slave and free states would equal.

    Nat turner was a religious man. He lead a group of 60 some slaves and rebelled, leaving 60 plantation owners dead. 3000 troop where sent to capture Nat Turner and his group, Most of the slaves in the Nat Turner rebellion where killed. Many slaves who did not participate where killed as well, the slave owners where paid back for the slaves that where executed. The southerners passed new laws because of this. I chose this date beause this is when the rebelion started.

    There were a lot of problems with slave states and free states. The free states had more states then the slave states when California died. The slave states wanted to leave the union because they thought it wasn’t fare. Henry clay wanted the north and the south to make a compromise. Senator John C. Calhoun was dying, He wanted to make all the western states slave states. Calhoun and the president died during the making of the compromise. The compromise basically said that California was allowed

    to join as a free state, new mexico and utaw whould be taritorys, the slave traid whould be stoped, and the fugitive slave law was passed. Isaac T. March 20th is the first day of spring, and spring was the safest time to of the year to escape, therefore March 20,1787 will be the start date. The end date, December 6,1865 was when the 13th Amendment ending slavery was past.

    Bleeding Kansas was a series of raids by the free soldiers from the north and the south. The first raid was made by john brown in 1859. This sparked the “war” in Kansas. The north and south continued raiding until the states became Free states. I chose this date because this is when The Kansas Nebraska act was passed.

    The Kansas Nebraska act was an act that said that the states Kansas and Nebraska could join as Free states even though Kansas and Nebraska are above the 30-30 line. This was passed even though the north didn’t like this because it had a small chance that the south could get the states. This lead to bleeding kansas. I chose this date because this is the date the kansas nabraska act was passed.

    The Dred Scott case was a trial in which Dred sued for his freedom. He felt that he could do this because he had lived in the north for 13 years before. He fought for the freedom of his family by suing his master’s wife, who owned him at the time. The case went to the supreme court who said he had no right to sue because he was just property, they also declared the Missouri compromise void. I chose this date because this is when the supreme court dilivered the magority vote.

    The election of 1860 was a presidential election in which the republican candidate Abraham Lincoln won the election without one southern vote. This enraged the southerners because this basically meant that they had no say in the affairs of the country. Most of the south voted for john Breckenridge. Because of what the south thought was an unfair election, seven states spit off of the union to form their own country. This country was called the confederacy.

    Fort Sumter was a union fort that was surrounded by confederate gun batteries in Charleston harbor. The union was just sending supplies to the fort but the confederates wouldn’t let the supply ships to reach the fort. They attacked the fort ruthlessly until the fort surrendered. This sparked the Civil War.
