The underground railroad was a system and network of conecting trails that lead to the north and canada. The slaves used his route and the trails around it to get to freedom. This trail hold so many memories hat it fills books up as fast as they started. This was when run away slaves's numbers went way up.

The whole reason to this case, is a black man named dred scott was sold and his new master took him to a free state for 12 years. During those 12 years he was in a free state, he married and got a taste of freedome. after his owner was ready to go back to the south, scott went with him but wanted to go back to the north to be free. Unlike most slaves who would attempt to run away, he sued for his freedom.

    Thomas garrett was one of the most famous and well known abolisionists. He would bcome so famous because when he was a small boy, on his fathers farm, a slave was beaten so badly he didnt ant anything to do with it. so he devoted his life to help slaves escape to the north. At one point in time he was caught and fined so much money he nearly went bankrupt. But yet he still devoted wht was left of his life to help slaves escape to the northern states and canada.
