  • John Brown

    John Brown
    American abolitionist who believed armed insurrection was the only way to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States. During the 1856 conflict in Kansas, Brown commanded forces at the Battle of Black Jack and the Battle of Osawatomie. Brown's followers also killed five slavery supporters at Pottawatomie. In 1859, Brown led an unsuccessful raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry that ended with his capture. Brown's trial resulted in his conviction and a sentence of

    Creadted by Henry Clay, this act (law) stated that the territory of Missouri would become a slave state and Maine would become a free state but anything above 36 degrees 30' North was free
  • Nat Turners Rebellion

    Nat Turners Rebellion
    Slave "preacher" named Nat Turner led a large mob of slaves in New Hapton county, Virgina on August 22, 1831. For a 48 hour period the mob killed 57 white men, women, and children. After a while the slaveholders beaten and killed these slaves and many others to prevent any more rebellions.

    A mini-war between Pro and Anti Slavery followers, because of the Kansas-Nebraska Act many Pro and Anti Slavery followers settled in these territories to affect the voting on whether that state will be a free or slave state. This led to an all out muderous war that lasted for sometime until the the vote was passed that Kansas was a free state.

    The United States presidential election of 1860 was the 19th quadrennial presidential election. The election was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1860 and served as the immediate impetus for the outbreak of the American Civil War. The election was between Abraham Lincoln the Republican canidate from Illinois, Stephan Douglas the Democrate canidate from Illinois, John Breckinridge the Southern Democrate from Kentucky, and John Bell the canidate for the Constituional Union and from Tennessee.

    Fort Sumter was a Union fort off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina when South Carolina seced from the Union on December 20, 1860. Confederate troops surrounded and fired apon the fort to the point were Union ships couldn't resupply the fort thuse forcing the Union troops to surrender. This attack was the start of the American Civil War.
