    by famous abolitionists like Harriet Tubman who made over 19 trips on the Underground Railroad. Secondly The Underground Railroad had many different ways to transport slaves. You could have the slaves stay with you and just walk to the freeland at night by sneaking through. Or you could do it a much riskier way by going on train or using a boat.

    The great era of the Underground Railroad started on March 20, 1787. The Underground Railroad was a pretty complex route of transporting slaves to freedom. In the underground railroad there were many differnet ways of communication. Abolitionists would use codes and dfferent kinds of phrases. They would write letter using this code so that they could not get caught by slave cathchers from trying to help slaves. The reason they sent letters was to help transport slaves from station to station

    The biggest way that the underground railroad was successful was because of all the abolitionist. Some abolitionist hated whites being racist almost as much as the actual slaves did. First lets talk about what the underground railroad actully was. It was a way that slaves could get from the south up to the free land Canada.     Finally were the people who mainly used the Underground Railroad. These people were most young and single men slaves. They were the most popular because they did not have a family and they were still healthy enough to travel such a distance with very little help and supplies. This route was mainly used until slavery finally came abolished.

    I chose this date because it was the day that the famous abolitionist Levi Coffin was born. Levi and his wife did many things to help out the blacks in there lifetime. Levi owned a store that he would sometimes let slaves stay the night and be able to feed them and hook them up with supplies. Levi was also a very well known person in the Under Ground Movement. He was the president of the whole thing. Levi and his wife did alot to help out slaves ecscape to freedom "Canada"

    Missouri Compromise Part 1
    On March 3, 1820 was the date that congress decided to pass the Missouri Compromise. Many slave holders had already moved down the southern parts of the territories including Missouri. James Tallmadge of New York wanted to make that no more slaves could move in to the state of Missouri. Also he wanted to make it so that every slave there would be freed by the age of 25 years old.

    The compromise made it so that Missouri would be a slave state but, everything lying north of the 36’ 30’ latitude mark will be a free state. Second part of the compromise was when Maine applied for statehood they became a free state so there will be equal twelve Free states and twelve slave states. This Compromise was made up by Henry Clay soon when on and also made the Compromise of 1850.

    On August 22, 1831 Nat Turner and about 70 other slaves rebelled against the plantation owners and there families. They killed about 60 people including the family members and the owners. This event was taken place in Southampton, Virginia. Researchers do not know the exact reason for Nat Turner rebelling, but one author with the name of Thomas Gray wrote a book about him interviewing Nat. Thomas says that Nat quoted 'my object was to carry terror and devastation wherever we went."

    You can never really know if the quotes from this book is true, since Thomas Gray was a reporter from the south. He would never say anything that would make the south look bad in any way.After Nat Turner's rebellion there was many new laws that were made for all black. Even if you were not a slave but you were black you would still have to follow these laws. This made the life of a fugitive worse than it was before.

    On the date September 18, 1850 "The Great Compromiser" also known as Henry Clay made the compromise of 1850. This compromise was made to be able to help decide whether the new states would be free or slave. In this Compromise the big deal that upsetted many northerners was the fugitive slave act. The act said that all slaves that were trying to ecscape had to be sent back to there homes.

    This act said that the Northeners would get into trouble if they were caught hiding a slave. Also to help follow through on this act were people called bounty hunters. There job was to rule whether the black person was a slave or if they were free. For every slave they would get 10 dollars and for every one they ruled free was 5 dollars. In the Compromise of 1850 the Northerners did not get what they would of pleased.

    Stephen Douglass thought of the idea to please both the northerners and the southerners so he could more votes. This brilliant idea happened on May 30, 1854 with the making of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This did not turn out as planned. He wanted to make it so that Kansas and Nbraska were decided to be free or slave state by popular soveighrty. Insted of being glad about this the northerners were outraged unlike Stephen Douglass thought. This made the north and the south clash more than before.

    The Supreme Court declared the Missouri Compromise void. This inflamed both sides because it wiped out the Missouri Compromise and Dredd Scott was not freed. Finally, in 1857 Mrs. Emerson gave the Scotts back to the Blow family. THey then gave the Scotts there freedom.

    On March 6, 1857 A black man named Dredd Scott went to court because he believed that he had a right Dredd was able to get an abolitionist lawyer to defend them in the case. well the first task was the ruling whether Dredd was a citizen of Missouri.     I chose this date because it was the day that John Brown led the raid on Harpers Ferry. This was one of the many things that happened in Bleeding Kansas. Charles Sumner who was a senator had gotten beaten up on the senate floor by a man named Preston Brooks. That event was the one that started the whole thing.

    On this date the famous president Abraham Licoln was elected. The couragous Abraham Lincoln was able to do this without 1 southern vote. Lincoln received only 40 percent of the popular votes and 180 eolectoral votes. This means that 60 percent of the rest of the people chose someone other than Abraham.

    On April 12, 1861 confederate troops did a 24 hour bombing on Fort Sumter. Abraham Lincoln "PRESIDENT" sent in supply ships to the union soldiers located inside of Fort Sumter. This did not got over well as the recently seceded confederates believed that Lincoln was sending in guns and ammo not supplies for the troops. So this made the Confederates start the attack on Fort Sumter because they believed Liconln wanted to take them out,
