    March 3rd 1820, Congress passed the Missouri Compromise.The Missouri Compromise is if slavery should be allowed in Missouri. The northerners thought that Missouri to be a free state because it would throw off the balance. The south wanted Missouri to be a slave state because they would get more slave states. In the end Missouri came out as both a slave & free state. That was because of the 36, 30’ line in LA territory. Henry Clay came up with it. James Monroe signed the compromise into law.

    The compromise of 1850 was about california being a slave state or a free state, which ended up being a free state.Washington d.c. is where slave trade ended. Which made it easier for the southerners to recover fugitive slaves. This was called the fugitive slave act. Zachary Taylor opposed the compromise, but his death on July 9 made pro compromise vice president Millard Fillmore of New York president. Mexico and Arizona got to choose if they wanted slaves or not.
