    This act passed in congress repeals the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850 and allows slavery in the territories of Kanas and Nebraska. Its real main effect was that it split the country and started the ball rolling towards civil war.

    The Dred Scott decision
    After multiple attempts of sueing for his and his families freedom in various states, Dred Scott took the case to the Supreme Court. After they resolved the case in his owners favor, the Supreme Court ruled that slaves were not citizens of the U.S.A.

    On January 28, 1861, representitives from all around Texas met in Austin to discuss the topic of Sucession. Sam Houston is one of the few reprisentitives to vote against sucession. After he is removed from office, he makes a pro-Union speak to the people of Texas.

    On March 2nd, 1861 congress refused to pass a law that if ratified would not allow congress or any law makers to interfere with slavery in "domestic istitiutions".
