    The underground railroad started in the 1800's and it started with slaves. Many slaves wanted to escape from there masters so most had an idea. Some slaves decided to take off at night so there masters didnt know. Slaves had found away to know if they would go to the north, they would look at the stars. When slaves found the big dipper then they would find the little dipper. Afterthat they could find the north star.

    Moss would grow on the north side of a tree. that is how they knew which way to go. If a master found out that there slave had ran away then he or she would send a patter roller which is someone who captures run away slaves. Stationmasters would put a candle by there window telling runaways that thier house station they would be safe.

    When slaves came to stationmasters houses they would have to sleep in a barn or in a celler. During the underground railroad if there were anybody cough helping a run away slave could be punished. Somethings that were dangerest for run away slaves where when they were faced ith bounty humters, slave caturer who are making a living by catching fugitves and returninng them to there owners. The most common run aways were single young black men.

    During the Underground railroad slaves had to sleep in small cabins which were only one or two rooms. They also had leaky roofs, drafly walls and dirt floors, had barly any pillow or blankets. There were alot of diffrent people who helped slaves, but the most famous Aboitionists were Levi Coffin and Willam Still. The reason alot of people ran to canada was so they didnt have to be a slave anymore they could have there freedom.

    In the Missouri Compromise is about if Missouri sould be a slave state. James Talmadge of new york proposed that no more slaves be brought in missouri. Children of slaveshould be already freed at the age of Twenty five. Missouri had gained it s admission to the union as a slave state, a provison that proton of the louisiana territory lying north of 36' 30'. Main was simultaneously admtted to the statehood as a free state so they could keep the balence between the slave and free states .

    On August 22 Nat Turner had started a war between black and white people. Nat Turner and 70 slaves had a uprising in south ampton country of virgina. Nat Turner and the 70 slaves had killed about 60 white people. After the rebellion of Nat Turner white men had started to beat and wip slaves becoasue they had thought that they would start another rebellion like Nat Turner so white men started to kill and tortur the slave so they couldnt start a rebllion.

    These laws we continued on through the time of the civil war. After that the law was known as the black codes.

    The rebellion started at the Travis plantation where nat turner live as a slave. When Nat turner rebellion started he had killed the entire Travis family. There were three thousand troops sent to capture Nat Turner and his followers. After the rebellion southern state had a new law that they made. the law was based on what slaves were allowed to do. Slaves were not allowed to vote, serve on jury, own property , testifyin court, learn to read or write, buy or sell goods and be a preacher.

    The compromise of 1850 was a new version of the Fugitve Slave Act. durring the compromise of 1850 washington, Dc wanted to stop slave trade. while doing that california was consider a free state. When california became a free state creating Utah and New Mexico tarritories with the question of slavery with each to determaind by sovereighty, setttling a Texas-New Mexico bondary dispute in the former favor endding the slave trade in Washington DC.

    Kansas Nebraska Act was a bill that mandated popular sovereignty which was allowing settlers of a territory decide whether slavey would be allowed within a new states border. Missouri wanted a boundery of slavery and free territory . A Conflict rose between pro-slavery and anti slavery this lead to peroid of violence and this is how the American Cilvil War Started.

    Gerrit Smith was one of the abolitionist durring the Undergound Railroad. Gerrit Smith was born in Utica, Oneida country of New York. on octorber 21,1835 there was a convention about anti-slavery which Smith attended. There was a big out brake. Gerrit had invited the group to reconvene the next day at Perterboro. Which they were sure that they would be welcome to contiue their activites.

    All the candidate needed at least 150 votes, but Abraham Lincoln was the only one that got higher than one hundred and fifty votes. He was the one with the most votes so he became presiudent.

    Durring the election of 1860 there were four candidates that were running for president. 1.)John Bell he was part of the Constutiutional Union Party . 2.) Stephen Douglas was part of the northerners demicrate. 3.) John Breakenridge he was part of the southerners Demicrate. 4.) Abraham Lincoln he was part of the Republican. Every one of these people went for president, but the was one winner it was Abraham lincoln with barely any southerner votes. Abraham had one hundred and eighty votes.

    The rason there was an attack on fort sumter was because he though that abraham lincoln was starting a war between them two. Abraham was bringing supplies fort sumter and he didnt want that he thaought he was bringing people over to star a war.

    Dred Scott had three diffrent owners his first owner when he was born was the Peter Family, He was born in virgina in 1799 as a african american slave. After the Peter Blow family moved to ST. Louis Dred Scott was sold to the Emersons. The Emerson had Taking Dred Scott in to alot of free states which thry prohibited slavery. Whlie going throw theses states he has found someone he really loved and they got married. her name was Harriet Robison soony after they went back to St. Lious.

    Bleeding Kansas took place in the kansas tarritory. They was alot of blood durring the time of bleeding kansas the reason there was alot of blood is because durring the kansas nabraska act it involved anti-slavery and pro-slavery kansas and missouri both had to pick one pro-slavery or anti-slaveryand they both picked freedom.
