    in 1804 all the northern states had officially abolished slavery. the different opinions about slavery in the United States contributed to seperating America. some states wanted slavery and some didnt. The north didnt want slavery but the south did. so the north became slave free wile the south did the opposite, which caused them to slowly seperate.

    In order to preserve the balance, Missouri was admitted as a slave state and Maine as a free state. Slavery was prohibited in the Louisiana Territory north of 36 degrees 30'.

    in 1823 Lowell's mills was the first factory to ever open. this was the begining of industrialization in America. the Industrial Revolution in America had a big factor in America slpitting up. being industrialized caused states and colonies to be more independent cause they now had factories so there was no reason to rely on any one else.

    The nullification act forced the South to accept the tariffs. Originally, they (the south) hated the tariffs and this act angered them even more, causing the North and the South to split even more than the tariffs themselves made them.

    in 1828 Andrew Jackson passed the tariff acts which made the south pay taxes for goods and such. only the South had to pay the taxes, they had to pay them to the North. this made the South very angry and had a great affect on seperating the north from the south. they didnt adress the issues with the fariff acts until 1832

    Five laws were passed that dealt with the issue of slavery. California entered the union as a free state, slave trade was abolished in D.C., the Fugitive Slave Act was amended, and a territorial government was created in Utah.

    Declared that anyone helping runaway slaves would be punishable by the law, California was a free state, and in the District of Columbia slave trading was to be prohibited.

    Raid on Harpers Ferry
    John Brown lead a revolt against slavery with 20 men in his party. They attempted to raid the U.S. arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia but they failed and fled after many me were killed.

    Abraham Lincoln was running for president and he was against slavery. Each state used sectionalism when ut came for voting for the candidates. They voted for who would best benefit their states views. The whole North voted for Abraham Lincoln becuase he dissagreed with slavery. Therefore, Lincoln won the election and it seperated the US greatly.
