    Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin in the United States. This happened in 1794 and was important, because it made it easier to clean cotton. This invention created conflict, because it made slavery more popular in the South.

    The Embargo Act of 1807 was Jefferson's attempt to create peace in the United States. This was important, because it stopped the exports of American goods. The created conflicted, because Britian and other members of the United States thought it was wrong.

    This involved the Lousiana Territory and the people who lived there. They needed to know if the Lousiana Territory would be free or slave, so they came to a compromise. The free states recieved Maine, while the slave states recieved Missouri. This is important, because it created the Mason-Dixon line.

    The Wilmot Proviso involved the U.S and a Pennsylvania Congressman named David Wilmot. He proposed that the area given to the U.S by Mexico would have slavery. The compromise of 1850 was made, because of it.

    This event involved the United States and dealed with slavery. This event made California a free state and gave Utah and New mexico the will to decide whether or not they wanted slaves. It also abolished the slave trade in Washington, D.C although they still kept slaves. This shows a compromise, because the North recieved new states amd the Southerners can now go to the North to get their runway slaves due to the Fugitive Slave Act.

    Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This involved the whole nation, because once the book was read many Northerners realized how cruel slavery was. This is important, because it created conflict between the North and South.

    This case involved Dred Scott and the court. Scott said that he was a free man, because his Slave Owner took him to free states. When his case went to the supreme court, they said that he had no rights, because he was slave. This case is important, because it is the reason the Missouri Compromise was repealed.

    This event involved Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln, and late the nation. Although Douglas won the seat in the Illinois Senate, this speech is important because it gave Lincoln a name nationwide, which will later help him become president. This event was a conlict, because Douglas and Lincoln's debates were about slavery and popular sovereignty.

    This event involved John Brown and Robert E. Lee. Brown was an extreme abolitionist who got a group of slaves and other abolistionist together to rebel against slavery. Although he took over an enginehouse, he was taken down by Robert E. Lee. He was later hanged for treason. This event is important, because it showed conflict between abolitionist and Southerners.

The Democratic party was cut in two and the Republican Party had nominated Abraham Lincoln, who had lost at being Illinois senate. This event is important, because it is the reason why Abraham Lincoln is the 16th president of the United States. It shows the conflict between the nation.

    This event is important, because it started one of the biggest conflicts in American History, the Civil War. The whole United States was involved, many southern states believed that the should leave the Union and create the Confederate States of America.South Carolina was the first state to secede the Union.
