  • The Arrival of the First Fleet

    In 1788 the first fleet arrived at Sydney cove. There were 11 ships with alot of convicts. So the convicts can build a colony.
  • NewCastle

    NewCastle was established in 1801. It failed and was closed in 1804. In 1801 the reson was economic- to make money from timber and coal. In 1804 the resons where social and economic- another place to send convicts.
  • Van Diemens Land

    In 1803 Van Diemens Land colony was established.The indigenous people that lived in the area were the Palawa.The English needed to stop the French from claming the land as they had ships in the area. This was a political reason. The English also wanted to relocate the worst offending convicts.This is a social reson for the colony to be established. This colony was established by Lieutenant John Bowen at Risdon Cove this is now known as Hobart.
  • Port Macquarie

    This colony was a penal colony.August 15 1830 The colony opened to free settlers.The indigenous people that lived in the area was the Biripi.Sydney couldn't handle any more convicts and the English needed another place to send convicts.
  • Morten Bay

    The British wanted to find a place to send convicts who had committed further crimes since arriving in sydney.It was also land of the Yuggera people.It was established in 1824.It was also a penal settlement
  • Norfolk Island

    Norfolk Island was established in 1818. the popoulation had swollen to 150, and more convicts were on there way.
  • Swan River

    The British wanted to prevent the French from establishing a colony.In 1850 the settlement became penal.The colony was established by Lieutenant Colonel James Stirling.The Wajuk people lived in this area before the british.A free settlement was established in 1829.
  • PortLand

    PortLand was established in 19th of November 1834.This colony was established for economic reasons.The Henty family wanted to graze sheep on fertile land and make money from selling the wool.
    The Henty Family:Edward, brother Francis, H Camfield, W Dutton,5 men,1 aboriganal women, 14 dogs.The sheep that were brought by the Henty's have hooved feet and they would have flattened the ground as Australia had never had hooved animals before.PortLand was established as a free colony.The indigenous

  • Port Phillip

    Port Phillip was established in 1835.The land was owned to the Kulin people.It is a free colony.now called victorior.Secondary settlement and populated by small number of convicts
  • Melbourne

    Melbourne was established in 1825On 6 June Batman recorded in his journal that he had signed a treaty with the local Aboriginal people, the Wurundjeri. In this treaty Batman purported to buy 2,000 km2 (772 sq mi) of land near the Yarra River and another 400 km2 (154 sq mi) around Geelong, on Corio Bay to the south west.
