14th Amendment
Whereas citizens are given the right to vote, but only the male citizens. Men were supreme according to constitution. -
Jim Crow Laws
Racial segregation among African Americans and other races that are diverse from white americans. This law was enforced in the early 1870’s until 1963. -
Wyoming
Wyoming became the first ever state to allow women the right to vote. -
Plessy VS Ferguson
It is a law whereas segregation is still a thing, but African Americans get some more benefits. -
Women During War
During the 1910’s, women worked men’s jobs during the war to support the country’s market while men are fighting in the war. This had lasted for 6 years. -
19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment had been ratified, therefore the law now allows women the right to vote for their state. -
Television
Television is what showed and provided the information about the protests going on with racial segregation. As well as the time when Emmit Till was murdered; his unfortunate end was all over America to show the brutality he faced. -
The Pink Triangle
In the German concentration camps, homosexuals and predators were branded with a pink triangle to assert their sexuality. This symbol was later used for homosexual symbolism. -
Levittown
Levittown was a neighborhood made for white people and white people only. Nobody was allowed to sell these houses to people of color; which seemed unfair, considering the fact that the Levittown houses were a lot better quality than most. -
Emit Till
A 14 year old who was lynched in Mississippi for offending a white woman by whistling at here. The suspects—who had confirmed they murdered him— did not suffer the consequences for murdering him. -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks had been arrested after refusing to give the seat she was sitting at to a white man. After the incident, the black community had boycotted buses for as long as 1 year, 2 months, and two days. -
Gay Rights in the 1960’s
Due to the degradation that homosexuals received, a lot of protests, sit-ins and boycotts were started. One of the many motives included suing bars for refusing service to men and women who claimed themselves to be gay. -
March On Washington
It was the largest protest during the Civil rights movements for jobs and freedom for African Americans. Over 250,000 people had attended it. -
Malcom X
He had supported to idea of black equality, in which African Americans have exactly the same rights to everything white people do. He also thought of all African Americans migrating to Africa to have their own separate country to rule in. -
Black Panthers
The group was a political organization to teach colored citizens self defense to protect themselves from violent white people. The organization was founded by some college students from Oakland, California. -
National Organization for Women (NOW)
An organization that is found in all states in America, where they support true equality between men and women. -
Loving V Virginia
According to Virginia, interracial marriage at the time was severely illegal, and banned from the state. Two interracial lovers had started a court case about the law, due to the fact that it actually violated the 14th Amendment. -
The Stonewall Inn
An inn that was considered a safe haven for people who did drag or even homeless/homosexual youth. In June, police raided the area and caused a riot that had lasted for five days. -
Christopher St Liberation Day
AFTER THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY, GROUPS AND COMMUNITIES THAT ARE OR SUPPORT LGBTQ, marched down the streets near the Stonewall Inn. It was also considered the very first Gay Pride Parade. -
Don’t Ask, Don't Tell
A time where Bill Clinton allowed LGBTQ soldiers into the military, so long as they keep their sexuality a secret from others. The idea did not work out so well, therefore the rule was diminished in 2011 by Obama.
