    Sadako and her friend Chizuko head off to the Peace park for the peace day celebration. On the walls were photographs of the dead and dying in a ruined city. The atom bomb had turned Hiroshima into a desert.

    Sadako was chosen from the bamboo class to participate in the big race on field day.She thought about the relay race the whole time. When it was time for the relay race Sadako Chan Tried her best and didn't give up. Sadako's team won the race.

    When Sadako was running in the school yard, suddenly everything seemed to whirl around her and she fell to the floor. One of the teachers rushed over to help. Sadako tried standing up again but her legs went wobboly and she fell again. Sadako's dad came and took her to the hospital. Sadako heard her mom say: " Leaukemia! But that's impossible! Sadako heard that frightening work and put her hands over her ears.

    The next morning when Sadako woke up she heard the voice of Chizuko so she opened her eyes. Chizuko had got her paper and scissors so she can make a 1000 paper cranes and get well. If a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, they are granted a wish and make her healthy again. Chizuko had gotten her a lucky charm.

    Once Sadako had gone out to the porch she had met a boy called Kenji whos parents had died and he is living with his aunt who visits him every week. Kenji says that he will die soon because he has leakumia from his mom. The poisen was in his mother's body and he got it from her.

    One day Kenji didn't appear on the porch. Late that night sadako heard the rumble of a bed being rolled down the hall. Nurse Yasunga came and told her that Kenji died. Sadako let the tears come as Kenji was her only friend. Sadako thinks that she will die next.
  • Hundreds of wishes

    Sadako grew pale and listless. Only her parents and Masahiro were allowed to vist her. Her class send her a Kokeshi doll to cheer her up. The doll stood next to the golden crane on Sadako's beside table.

    Mrs. Sasaki
    Mrs. Sasaki was worried that Sadako doesn't eat enough food, so she wrapped her Egg rolls, Bean cakes, Chicken and rice, Pickled Plums. Sadako stood up and tried to eat but it was not helping. Her swollen gums hurt that she couldnt chew. Her mother's eyes were so bright as if she was going to cry.

    Masahiro gave Sadako a silver paper so she can make a paper crane from her six year old brother Eiji. Sadako thought it smells like chocolate.
  • Last Days

    Last Days
    Sadako is halfway through a thousand paper cranes. Much of her pain went away and now her appetite came back. The nurse told Sadako to go home for a visit. Sadako was so excited that she couldn't sleep. It was wonderful for her to be back with her family. I'm making everyone sad, Sadako thought. Before she went to sleep she said to them: " When I die, Will you put my favourite bean cakes on the altar for my Spirit?

    Mrs.Sasaki makes Sadako a silk Kimino that she had stayed up the whole night making it. It had cherry blossoms on it. She felt hot tears blur her eyes.

    Before she went to sleep that night , Sadako managed to fold only one paper crane.It was the Last on she ever made!
  • Racing with the wind

    As she grew weaker, she thought more about her death. Would she liveon a heavenly mountain? Did it hurt to die? Or was it like falling asleep? She tried to forget about it but she couldn't . As soon as she thought about something else, Death crept back to her mind.

    Sadako woke up and to her sight she saw he mom crying. "Don't cry" Begged Sadako. A tear slid down her her cheek and she had brought her mom so much grief. She tried to make another paper crane but her fingers were too clumsy to fold it. When she woke up the next time all her family were surrounding here. All lights were dancing behind her eyes. Life was slipping away from her. Sadako sighed and closed her eyes. She never woke up.

    Sadako Sasaki died on october 25,1955
    Her classmates folded three hundred and fifty six cranes so a thousand cranes were buried with Sadako
