Missouri entered union as a slave state. Maine also entered as a free state but there was no slavery north of the 36* 30* line latitude.They Believes slaveholders have rights to settle in the Louisiana territory and any new territory. Also they are against more free states then slavery states. -
Compromise of 1850 fugitive slave law
California applied to become a free state in 1849.Their is currently a balances of 15 slaves states and 15 free states. When California asked to become part of US. They also believed slavery must be allowed to expand into Utah and New Mexico territories. Too add on fugitives wanted to keep slavery and slaves trade in Washington DC. -
