  A large group of workers marched to the Tsar's palace with a petition for better working conditions, and were fired at by soldiers, many lives were lost along with serve injuries.

  Russia lost the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. The Russian Tsar Nicolas II lost considerable status in the eyes of the working class. This created contempt from the working people towards the Tsar and led to unrest that wouldn't settle.
