Bloody Sunday
A large group of workers marched to the Tsar's palace with a petition for better working conditions, and were fired at by soldiers, many lives were lost along with serve injuries. -
Russo-Japanese War
Russia lost the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. The Russian Tsar Nicolas II lost considerable status in the eyes of the working class. This created contempt from the working people towards the Tsar and led to unrest that wouldn't settle. -
World War I Begins
During the period of WWI, many Russian soldiers lives were lost and a lot of land and resources were destroyed due to the Scorched Earth Policy(eg. crops, livestock, technology, etc.) -
February/March Revolution
February 23-27 (March 8-12 NS) Riots started against the Tsarist regime, and the military revolted against Tsar Nicolas II, causing him to abdicate. -
Provisional Government Formed
(March 15 NS) This government was formed after Tsar Nicolas II abdicated, it was lead by Alexander Kerensky and it was an ineffective form of government. -
Return of Vladimir Lenin
(April 16 NS) Vladimir Lenin, leader of the Bolshevik Party, returns after exile to Petrograd. -
October/November Revolution
(November 7 NS) Lenin and the Bolsheviks overthrew the Provisional government and began to form a Marxist (communist) government in the new Russia (USSR). -
Russian Civil War
(November 7 1917-October 25 1922) This war was fought between the Reds, the Bolsheviks, and the Whites, supported by the upper and middle class Russians. One of the major events of this war was the execution of Tsar Nicolas II and his family. -
The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
This treaty was signed between the new Bolshevik government of Russia and the Axis powers, ending Russia's involvement in WWI. -
Vladimir Lenin Dies
Vladimir Lenin passes away and Joseph Stalin, his successor, takes over the USSR government. This is the start of a new chapter in the Soviet Union's history.
