    Executive Order 9981
    It abolished racial discrimination in the United States Armed Forces and eventually led to the end of segregation in the services. It was issued by president Harry S. Truman.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    A case where the court decided that there would not be different schools for blacks and whites anymore. And that racial segregated schools was unconstitutional.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Parks got arrested for refusing to give her seat up on a bus for a white man in the colored part of the bus. She was imeditily arrested.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Students were prohibited from entering racially segregated schools. But then a decision was made that racially segregate schools was unconstitutional and it was declared that all school would be desegregate. But this also posed a threat for the black students that went to school, they had to be guarded by the nation guard because white people would be violent and mean towards them on the way to school.

    A group of black students from Texas A&M refused to leave a Woolworth’s lunch counter when they had been denied service. This sparked a wave in them and they created this group to coordinate sit-ins, support their leaders and publicize their activities. This went on for six years.
  • Woolworth Sit-in

    Woolworth Sit-in
    4 student sat down at the lunch counter in the Woolworth store, later they tried to perchase things but wernt given service. The workers refused to serve African Americans and we asked to leave. The students didnt leave and the next day more African American students joined the sit-in as a protest.

    Civil rights activits who rode buses into segregated southern United States. They faced many issues on there ride like the bus being blow up and violence to the African Amercians on board.

    Meredith was the first African American to attend the University of Mississippi.

    This was a letter that MLK wrote while in Birmingham Jail, it was to white priests who wanted him to stop what he had been doing with the non-violent protest and civil rights for African Americans.

    This was a political rally for civil and human rights for African Americans. It took place in Washington D.C in front of the Lincoln Memorial where Martain Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I have a Dream" speech to end racism.
  • 6th Street Baptist Church Bombing

    6th Street Baptist Church Bombing
    Bombs were placed in the church underneath steps and 4 little girls were attending Sunday school that day and they died due the bombs that were placed. It was done by the Klu Kux Klan aka. KKK.

    24th Amendment
    Prohibits both Congress and the states from conditioning the right to vote in federal elections on payment of a poll tax or other types of tax. Before this amendment, the poll tax prevented African Americans from voting but now that will no longer be an issue.

    These men where civil rights workers that were murderd by the Ku Klux Klan aka. the KKK. These 3 men had been working to register black voters in Mississippi during Freedom Summer.

    Malcolm X assassinated
    Malcolm X was assassinated mainly for being a black muslim minister.
  • Jimmie Lee Jackson Death

    Jimmie Lee Jackson Death
    Jimmie Lee Jackson was a civil rights protester who was shot a killed by an Alabama State Trooper. Jackson was unarmed his death is what inspired the Selma to Montgomery marches.
  • Bloody Sunday 1965

    Bloody Sunday 1965
    About 600 African Americans marched from Selma, Alabama to Motgomery. In doing this they demonstrated African American voting rights. When they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge the demonstraters were violently assalted by armed state troopers and deputies. They beat them and threw tear gas into the crowd.

    Over 600 African American marched from Selma to Monyogomery in memory or Jimmie Lee Jackson and for their civil rights. This march lead to what is known as "Bloody Sunday".

    This was a racial riot that lasted 6 days and resulted in 34 deaths over a 1,000 injuries and over 3,000 arrests, It was because in LA it prevened African and Mexican Americans from renting or buying in certian areas.

    On this day MLK was shot while standing on his motel balconey by James Ray. MLK was a man who change society and he was a major target by people who opposed to his beliefs and changes he made to America.

    “Bull” Connor Uses Fire Hoses on Black Demonstrators
    Was a part of the Project C, and he strickly enforced segrefgation and to deny blacks their civil right. On May 2nd he took a fire hose a sprayed black demonstrator (children).

    Limited the rights of employees who has sued their employers for discrimination. Faces the problem of discrimination within work places.

    He was brutally murdered for whistling at a white women.
