    In 1607, the Virginia Company of London ( joint stock company) established a colony of the cost of Virginia. Colony had a ruff start of only 38 out of 150 settlers survived the first winter. The settlers were on a swamp, the gentlemen's refused to work, and the native Americans were really bad. John Smith was the leader of Jamestown and whoever didn't want to work, wouldn't eat.     Middle Colony and was settled by Dutch in 1624. Dutch called area New Netherlands and New York City New Amsterdam. Henry Hudson explored Netherlands in 1611, for the Dutch to claim to the territory. Dutch used " Patroon" System to promote settlements. They were able to keep their lands even when the British gained controlled, the British sent naval fleet to seize New Netherlands and the Dutch. They surrounded without a fight, and the territory was renamed for the Duke. Notes

    In 1630, the Puritans settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony, with a charter from King Charles 1st, about 100 puritans settled in Massachusetts. The Puritans laws that governed the colony was tied to the beliefs of the Puritans Church. The Dissenters were people who didn't follow the Puritans law or rules, some of the dissenters ranged and set up there own New England Colony. 1643, 20,000 English settlers jointed the Puritans they were out numbers, but only men members of the church vote.     Southern Colony Settled by Lord Baltimore in 1632. Baltimore was Catholic and convinced King Charles1 to grant him 100 acres with for persecuted Catholic to settle. Maryland was settled by the Proprietary Colony which meant the owner of colony was the leader, not the British King or Queen. Baltimore died before able to do anything with his land, but his son Cecil Calvert took over and offer 100 acres of married men. Toleration Act in 1649 granted religious freedom to Christians living in England

William was banished from Massachusetts Bay Colony for speaking government authorities punishing religious, and against the confiscation of Native American land.     Maryland Toleration Act also called the Act Concerning Religion, was a law mandating religious tolerance for Trinitarian Christians. Anyone who dealt with King who didn't follow the rules inside the church, would be punished of there rights.     Southern Colony Settled by Supporters of King Charles 2nd in 1663. King Charles granted 8 supporters land in the Carolina, with easy access to the trade in the West Indies. People settled in Carolinas to grow crops like tobacco, rice. Cash crops are meant to grow for the purpose of selling, rather than being grown for just farmers to use.   • Bacon's Rebellions

    Bacon's Rebellions
    Nathanial Bacon raised an unauthorized military of indentured servant slaves, and poor farmers to retaliate against a series of Native Americans attacks, on the Virginia frontier. Some scholars believe that Bacon had an ulterior motive instead of simply being upset with Governors Berkeley, refusal to retaliate against Native Americans. Notes

    Middle Colony Settled by William Penn in 1682. King Charles 2 granted William Penn a charter for colony of Pennsylvania. Penn established the colony as a " place without" landowning aristocracy where every male received 50 acres and rights to vote. The Society of Friends as know as Quakers, was established in 1647, but not formally organized till 1668. Quakers were often ridiculed for their simplicity of speech and clothing's. They were persecuted for rejecting oaths rituals and formal ministers

    In 1754, Major George Washington was sent by Virginia's governor to evict the French from Fort Duquesne. Washington came upon a French scouting party and ordered his men to open fire. Washington's men killed 12 Frenchmen and wounded 22. During the first two years of the war the French and their Indian allies defeated the British numerous times.   • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials
    When a young girl in Salem Village, Massachusetts claimed to be possessed by the devil himself and accused by the women that possessed her. 15 people were imprisoned for witchcraft, 7 died in the prisoned, 19 men and women were found guilty and was hanged, and one was crushed.
