    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was created in 1820 and was a result of the Louisiana Purchase. Missouri was created as a slave state and Maine was created as a free state. It also established the 36 30 line which stated that slavery was illegal above the state of Missouri.   • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    In 1831 Nat Turner, a slave, led an uprising with about 70 other people. They killed sixty people and was considered the bloodiest slave uprising ever. This impacts slavery in the south because as a result of the uprising the very little rights slaves had were restricted.     Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 was created by Henry Clay and resulted of questions surrounding slavery in the land acquired from the Mexican American War. The compromise made the land of Utah & NM open to slavery based on popular sovereignty. CA was free. It also strengthened the Fugitive Slave clause & ended the slave trade in DC.     Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1852. It shows the worst aspects of slavery. It was the second best selling book in America, second only to the Bible. Lincoln said, "So you're the little woman that wrote the book that started the war."     Bleeding Kansas
    The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 nullified the Missouri Compromise and allowed slavery to be permitted by popular sovereignty in the territories of Kansa and Nebraska. As a result, a civil war broke out in Kansas between pro and anti slavery people. The war lasted for 5 years and resulted in many casualties.     Dred Scott v Sanford
    Dred Scott was a slave who sued to gain his freedom because he was brought to a free state. The courts decided that no matter the decision made, it would end the debate of slavery once and for all. The decision was made that Scott was considered a piece of property and had no legal standing to sue and the judge even said that he was "inferior" to whites.     When the confederate army took control of Fort Sumter in South Carolina, President Lincoln sent troops to go and regain control of the Fort. The Confederate army fights off the Federal Army and they are forced to leave. This sparks the beginning of the Civil War.
