    Missouri Compromise
    Missouri entered the U.S. as a slave state but the North got maine and as a result there became an imaginary line at the south border of Missouri which was there to show that any state above the line had to become a free state and any state below it was to be a slave state. The tenions tht came of this were fights among the people of the north and the south deciding on whether or not new states that joined the U.S. would be slave states or not.

    The Nullification Crisis was a crisis during the presidency of Andrew Jackson that was made because John C. Calhoun thought that A state could cancel a law if they thought that the law was unconstitutional.This led to sectional tensions because the south did not want the tarrif but president Andrew Jackson wanted to enforce it.

    The Compromise Of 1850
    The compromise of 1850 had 5 parts to it. California would enter the U.S. as a free state, New Mexico and Utah would be able to vote on whether they wanted slavery or not, There was a stricter law for runaway slave, and the last part was that slave trade became illegal in Washington D.C. The tensions that came of this were that all that the compromise did was hold off the issues of slavery that would have to be dealt with later in time.

    The republican party was made up of former whigs and they thought that no human being shoud own another. The objective for them was to have slavery not be expanded into the new states in the western territory. This led to sectional tensions because the the south wanted slavery to expand into the new states in the western territory.

    The Kansas-Nebraska act's purpose was to try to solve the problem of whether or not Kansas and Nebraska would become a free state or a slave state. The tensions that came of this were that eventually in 1861 Kansas entered the U.S. as a free state which led up to the civil war.
  • The Dred Scott Decision

    The Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a slave and his master was John Emerson and they lived in Missouri but they moved to Illinois and the territory of Wisconsin where slavery is not legal so Scott tried to sue the family of Emerson. The tensions that came of this were that the supreme court ruled that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional and that slaves could not be free even if they were in a free state they were still property. A lot of people did not like this.
  • The Raid On Harpers Ferry

    The Raid On Harpers Ferry
    John Brown raided the U.S. government and his hope was to give the enslaved African Americans weapons to fight for the cause. The tensions that came of this were that John Brown and the others involved were caught and John Brown was hung and as a result harpers ferry had many of the Civil Wars battles fought there.

    The Election Of 1860
    There wer four different candidates in the election of 1860. The democratic was very split up on the issue of slavery so the suth cose their candidates and the north chose theirs. This led to sectional tension because there was a lot of tension on the issue was that the northern people who were candidates did not want or like slavery and the candidates that were democrats from the south did like slavery and wanted to expand it.
