    Magna Carta
    The magna Carta was granted by King John in june 1215. It established that that the monarchy's power was not absolute.
    It included guarantees of fundamental rights such as Trin by Jury and Due Process of law.
  • The Petition Of Rights

    The Petition Of Rights
    -Limited the kings power
    -It demanded the kingno longer imnprison or otherwise punishany person but by the lawful judgement of hispeers or by the law of the land
    - The king may not impose martial law (military rule), in times of peac.
    - Cannot require homeowners to shelter the king's troops without their consent
  • The English Bill of Rights

    -In 1689 a list of provisions that King William and Mary had to agree by in order to get the crown.
    -Prohibited a standing army in peacetime, except with the consent of Parliament.
    -Right to the fair trial
    -Freedom from excessive
    -freedom from cruel and unsual punishment.
  • The 13 Colonies

    -Established seprately over 125 years
    -1st colony,virginia, was founded with the first permanent English settlement of jamestown 1607
    -Last colony was georgia (Savannah) in 1733
    -Each colony was established on the basis of charter- written grantof authority from the king
