Great Awakening
A number of famous historians during the time had started reconsidering old religious ideas. This caused a large revival of religion and a lot of the first colonists left Britain to escape religious persecution after new religious ideas started forming. This lasted around 1730 to 1740. -

French and Indian War
The French, Indians, Colonists and British all thought they had rights to the Ohio River valley. So, the French and Indians grouped together against the Colonists and British in a war over the land. It is also called the 7 years war. The British won the war with the Treaty of Paris. However it left the British in massive debt and they heavily taxed the colonists. -
Treaty of Paris
It was created by the English to end the French and Indian War. The Treaty of Paris was an agreement between the French and English to formally end the war. The British and French exchanged land captured during the war and the English gained much of France's land. The British taxed the colonists to gain back the money lost in the war. -
Proclamation line of 1763
This was also caused by French And Indian war. It was a line that was enforced by Britain to stop Colonists from settling west of the Appalachia in order to stop the Indians and Colonists from fighting. The colonists began to doubt the rule of Britain because they did not approve of the Proclamation line. -

It was caused by the British trying to gain control of Native American land in the great lakes. The chief of the Ottawa Natives rebelled against British rule in the great lakes area and it led to an uprising in fort Detroit. -

Colonial acts
(Quartering Act March 1765, Stamp Act March 1765, Townshend Acts November 1767, Tea Act 1773, Intolerable Acts November 1774)
The French and Indian war left Britain in big debt. So, they taxed the colonists. Most acts are taxes on various items. The Quartering act required colonists to provide shelter and food to British soldiers after the French and Indian war. The Stamp act taxed paper items that required a stamp on it. -
Colonial Acts extended
The Townshend acts taxed common house goods. The tea act created a monopoly with the British East India Co. over the colonist’s tea selling businesses. Intolerable acts were created to punish the the residences of Boston for dumping tea into the harbor. In this the British crown took control of Boston, passed another quartering act, and closed all its ports. This was most likely the final straw for the colonists and they met up for the first continental congress. -
Boston Massacre
It was caused by Colonists protesting the Towsnshend acts. It actually occurred when one soldier accidentally fired on the crowd. The rest of the soldiers fired and it resulted in many deaths.Britain repealed the Townshend acts and withdrew their soldiers. However, they kept the tea act. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists were angry that Britain did not repealing the tea act.
So, a group of colonists named the sons of liberty dressed as Indians and storm British boats. Then, they threw tons of tea into the Boston harbor.The British passed the intolerable acts as a punishment. -
First Continental Congress
Almost all the colonies felt bad for Boston since the intolerable acts were passed. So, representatives for each state besides Georgia were sent to meet up to try and figure out an agreement with the King. They came up with the declaration of rights and grievances, but the king responded by saying either they stay with Britain and submit or they break off into their own country. -
Common Sense
After the King told the colonists either they bow or fight the crown. Thomas Paine wrote a passage to motivate colonists to fight against the British. It caused many colonists to side with America rather than the British.
