Proclamation Line
This in which was when King George the 3rd proclaimed there to be no more colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. In effect the colonists were angered because they wanted more land and lots moved west anyhow, not paying any mind to the law. -
Stamp Act
The first direct tax not only the merchants, but all the colonists. Nearly all printed materials were taxed, this includes posters, newspapers, deeds, and playing cards. -
Quartering Act
This certain act forced colonists to furnish shelter and food to British soldiers. This formed the basis for the future 3rd amendment to the US Constitution as the resentment grew. -
Declaratory Act
The British Parliament created this declaration that followed the repeal of the Stamp Act. It had said the British Parliament's taxing authority was equal in Great Britain as in America. -
Townshend Acts
This was a series of acts which taxed objects like tea, paper, and glass. This act was named after the person whom proposed the program, Charles Townshend. -
Boston Massacre
The event to lead to the Boston Massacre was when Britain dispatched 1,000 troops to Boston to maintain the calmness, which is where colonists taunted them. British soldiers fired on those who were taunting them and killed 4 people. -
Committee of Correspondence
Starting with rallies of colonial opposition against British policy and then established a political union among the Thirteen Colonies. Samuel Adams wrote the letter to James Warren -
Tea Act
This act was surpassed by the parliament which granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales. Although the progress of the Tea Act forced no new taxes on the American colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
The cause was because colonists were angered and required to purchase British tea. As a result, colonists dressed up to look like Indians and poured 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor -
Intolerable Acts
This is what the colonists were calling the new laws, as they made them furious. Which led for the Committee of correspondence to call colonies for a meeting. -
"Shot Heard Around the World"
This took place in the battle called the Battle of Concord. This event happened after British troops looking for ammunition stockpiles in Concord ran into the local minutemen. -
Common Sense
Common Sense tested the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. This lead to the first work to openly ask for independence from Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
Second Continental Congress adopted this statement at the Pennsylvania State House. This announced that the Thirteen Colonies were now considered 13 independent sovereign states and no longer under British Rules.
