  • Proclamation of 1763

    This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalchain Mountains. The British goverment feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley afetr winning the French and Indian War

  • Quartering Act

    This act forced colonists to quarter, or house, British soldiers at any time needed. Most of this act occured in New York. This act was passed to raise revenue, or income to Britain so Britain could pay off its debt from the French and Indian war. By passing this act, Britain did no longer have to supply the soldiers with food or shelter, and that caused Britain to gain alot of money.
  • Stamp Act

    This act required all legal documents to carry the official stamp of Britain, showing that the imported goods have been paid with a tax by the colonists. Ther British troops once took a ship of smuggled wine that hadn't had the tax paid, hence the "smuggled" word. This greatly angered colonists. this act was later repealed because the colonists started to boycott british goods.
  • Townshend Act

    This act suspended the New York Assemblies until colonists decided to cooperate to the Quartering Act, which made colonists provide housing for British troops. It also placed taxes on exported goods such as tea, lead, and paint. The money that was raised by the Townshend acts would be used to pay the British Goveners and other officials throughout the colonies.
  • The Tea Act and The Boston Tea Party

    Parliament "opened up old wounds," when passing the tea act. . The tea act gave all power for selling tea to the British East India Company over all the American tea trades. Tea was now only allowed to be purchased by the British East India Company. The trading company's ships were the only way to get tea. The Boston Tea Party was a way of the colonists disapproving the laws that were being made. Colonists dressed up as Native Americans and destroyed over one million dollars worth of tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    This act angered many colonists by banning many things. One act closed the port of Boston until the colonists decided to pay for the damage they caused in the Boston Tea Party. Another act banned commities of correspondence, made colonists have to house troops whenver neccesary, and let British criminals have their trial in Britain.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    These two battles were the first two battles of the Revolutionary war. On the Battle Of Lexington, the British had 700 men, while the militia had 70. The British then marched off to go destroy the militia's supply's in Concord. On their way back, they were ambushed by 4,000 militiaman and Minutemen, who were hiding amongst the trees. The Minutemen and the militia won this battle by almost wiping out all of the british soldiers there.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition was created by the Boston Sons Of Liberty. This document was created as a last chance of peace and fairness between Britain and the colonies. When King George the III saw this document, he not only rejected it, but instead, he punished the colonists, thinking this document was insincere and wanted Britain to resign of its post and let the colonies be independent.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence wa written by Thomas Jefferson, a member of the Boston Sons of Liberty, and it stated that people have unalienable rights, or rights that the goverment could not take away from them. If the goverment discards these rights, it will then lose its rights to govern, allowing the people to be able to form a new goverment, that would protect their rights.
