  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The british government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian war.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was an act passedby British Parliament to ensure British troops had a place to live and were well fed. This act called that Colonists had to houseand feed British troops if they come to their houses, for as long as they needed. This act affected many colonists and made them angry.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed by Parliament in March 22, 1765. This new act affected all the colonists, and required them to pay a tax for every legal document they used. It required that all legal documents have an official stamp when sending them. The money collected by the Stamp Act was to be used to help pay the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier near the Appalachain Mountains.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts was passed by Parliament shortly after the Stamp Act. This act placed a tax on all imported goods. The act was designed to get revenue from colonist by placing taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. This act led to boycotts by the colonists.
  • Tea Act/ Boston Tea Party

    Tea Act/ Boston Tea Party
    The Tea Act placed a tax on tea and called that only the West Indies Company could make and sell tea to the colonies.
    this angered many colonist, which lead to Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was an event that took place in 1773. Colonists dressed like Indians went on Tea ships and dumped hundreds of crates of tea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Parliament passed this act because British was angry about the Boston Tea Party. This act closed the port of Boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea. It banned the committee of correspondence. Allowed Britain to house troops whereever neccessary. Lastly, it allowed British officials accused of crimes to stand trial in Britain.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord was made up of two battles that began on April 18th, 1775. They were the first battles of the revolution. British troops were sent to Concord to capture John Hancock and Samuel Adams, but both men had been warned about the British attack, by the famous Paul Revere and other men. This onslaught of fighting made the Colonies want to have independence of Britain.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    The Olive Branch Petition was a final try to avoid a Revolutionary War with England. The Petition stated their loyalty with the king and asked for him to repeal the Intolerable Acts. The King however, rejected this petition. This told the colonies that independence was needed from the Britain.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    This document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson and became one of our most valuable documents of all time. This document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, which the Continental Congress approved. This document stated all the reasons why they needed and wanted to be independent. All members of the Congress signed their names on this document showing that all members agreed whith this.
