    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamtion did not allow colonists to settle west of tyhe Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also couldn't afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley, after winning the French and Indian War.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This law forced colonists to house British soldiers and provide them with supplies that they needed. The government was still in debt from the French and Indian War, so they thought that this act would help them gain more revenue. Colonists were very angry that the king would make them let these soldiers barge in, without them having a say in whether they felt the law should be passed or not.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act required colonists to carry an official stamp on all of their legal and commercial documents, showing tax had been paid. The law was like a new tax on the colonies; an extra tax. The colonists were furious that they didn't have a say in passing this law and began to boycott British goods.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were distributed to raise more revenue in the colonies. The Townshend Acts included: suspending the New York assembly until New Yorkers agreed to house troops, and taxing on imported products such as, lead, glass,paint, tea, and other goods. Parliament, later, assigned search warrants to search homes for smuggled goods. Colonists were very angry that they had no opinion to about passing these laws. these acts were named after Charles Townshend, who proposed the laws.
  • Tea Act/ Boston Tea Party

    Tea Act/ Boston Tea Party
    Parliament repealed all the taxes except the one, on tea. The Tea Act allowed colonists to buy tea only from the British East India Company. Protests broke out and the Sons of Liberty organized a protest so big, that nobady could ignore it. They dressed up as Native Americans, and dumped 342 crates of tea in the Boston Harbor. This was known as the Boston Tea Party.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Parliament passes a set of laws to punish the colonists for the British Tea Party and warn other colonies of the capeablity of Parilment. The laws would close the port of Boston until colonists paid for destroyed tea. Colonists began to organize militias.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    First battle of Patriots vs. Loyalists. it started out with the British soldiers commanding patriots to drop their weapons, they refuse, and fight occurs. As the British reatreats they run into 4,000 militiamen and minutemen, lined up, on the road of Concord to Lexington. Ready to fight. They ambushed the redcoats marking the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

    Olive Branch Petition
    The colonists took one last peaceful action towards their freedom.A document was sent to the king asking him to create peae with Britian and the colonies. The king rejected the petition without even looking at it. Instead he chose to punish the colonies even further, he blocked all American ships from leaving their ports
  • Declaration of Indenpendence

    Declaration of Indenpendence
    After their last asking of representation is rejected by the king, the Continental Congress began to approach the topic of independence a different way. On June 7, Richard Henry Lee thought of an inovation to completely end political connection between the colonies and Britian. They agreed on writing a document that didn't only ask for freedom but declared it, and if the government disregareded the rights written it would lose it's rigt to govern. Thomas Jefferson was to write the document.
