They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclomation because the felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and indian war.

British troops march and reach Lexington and are met by 70 Militia men. The fight begins with the "shot heard around the world." 8 Militia men were dead and the battle was won by the British. These were the first battle of the Revolutionary war.
