    The British seize New York in their grand plan to stop the rebelion.
  • French Help the Americans

    The French had been secretly sending weapons to the Patriots since early 1776 however the Battle of Saratoga massively encouraged the French to assist the Patriots.

    General William Howe and Admiral Richard Howe joined forces to sail to New York with the largest British Force combined with German soldiers.
  • Washington Withdrawals

    Washington is forced to withdrawal because of his untrained and unprepared army.
  • The Battle of Trenton

    Washington puts it all on the line in this desperate attempt to get a victory. He led his men across the Delaware River where a surprise attack took place in Trenton. This was a much needed victory because it encouraged Washington and his men to keep fighting.
  • Washington and his army struggles

    Washington and his army of less then 8,000 men continue to struggle. Washington worries that his men will not have anything to fight for so desperately looks for something to motivate them.

    8 days after the Battle of Trenton Washington and his men made another great win in Princeton then proceeded to march to a winter camp near Morristown.
  • British take Philadelphia

    General Howe began to seize Philadelphia and succeeded in late August when Washington's men failed to block the redcoats out.
  • Victory at Saratoga

    American troops surround Burgoyne, forcing him to surrender in the battle of Saratoga. This was a huge high point in the war for the Americans and an embarrassing defeat for Burgoyne. This was considered the Turning Point in the war

    Valley Forge

    Valley Forge served as a very crude home for the Patriots while the British were in comfortable warm homes.
  • The French Join the Patriots

    After the battle of Saratoga, the French were encouraged by the Patriots victory to sign a treaty with America and team up against the British.
  • American Troops Train

    During the winter at Valley Forge Friedrich von Steuben, a Prussian captain and drillmaster began training the untrained American troops.
  • British move South

    After the defeat in Saratoga, the British began moving South in hopes to rally the support of Loyalists
  • British Take Savannah

    The British, in their plan to move South, easily took over Savannah, Georgia
  • British claim Georgia

    After the British took Savannah, a royal governor controlled Georgia once again
  • Marquis de Lafayette

    Marquis de Lafayette offered his assistance to Washington and lobbied for French reinforcements while leading a command in Virginia
  • The British capture Charlestown

    General Henry Clinton and Charles Cornwallis joined forces and sailed south with 8,500 which led to their greatest victory.
  • American Soldiers captured

    Cornwallis marched 5,500 American troops as prisoners of war.
  • British victory at Camden

    The British crushed American forces at Camden the proceeded to establish multiple forts across the state within those next 3 months
  • Victory at Cowpens

    In this battle the Americans, largely outnumbered, were expected to flee from the British. However in an unexpected turn of events the Americans held their ground and eventually forced the Redcoats to surrender.
  • Greene seeks help

    The British were weakened by Greene who desperately needed reinforcements for his upcoming battle.
  • Congress appoints a new Superintendent of Finance

    Congress appointed Robert Morris Superintendent of Finance. They successfully raised funds for Quakers and was able to pay the soldiers.
  • Yorktown

    The French and American met to accept the formal surrender of the British at Yorktown, VA
