  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists were annoyed by the British taxing them so they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The consequence for the Boston Tea Party. A series of very harsh laws that made it easier for the Colonists to get in trouble for little things. Gave British a lot more control.
  • Lexington and Concord

    A battle that took place in the cities Lexington and Concord. The British heard rumors of secret staches of weapons, so they sent soldiers to go and confiscate them. The secret militias fought back against the British causing them to flee. This was the start of the Revolutionary War.
  • George Washington becomes head of army.

    This is the date George Washington became the head of the Continental Army.
  • Declaration of Independence signed.

    This is the date that the Declaration of Independence was signed. Thomas Jefferson wrote it. It was actually signed August 2nd 1776, but it was approved by Continental Congress July 4th.
  • Battle of Long Island

    A battle lost by the Patriots because they were unexperienced and outnumbered. George Washington retreated the patriots to New York.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The battle that the patriots won to convince the French that they stood a chance in the war. The French helped the patriots after this battle. The British lost this battle for many reasons including they were carrying to much junk, their militia abandoned them and joined the patriots, and the other army that was supposed to help them abandoned them. It lasted until October 7, 1777.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    A siege that the French and Patriots pulled off against the British. This was a major loss for the British and a major win for the Patriots. It lasted until October 19, 1781.
  • Paris Peace Treaty

    This is the document that ended the Revolutionary War. Great Britain was defeated and the United States of America became an independent country.
