    This was the "Shot heard around the World",or the first battle of the Revolutionary War. There were two battles. Lexington, which was won by the British, and Concord, which was won by America.
  • Capture of Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga was a large fort owned by the British. It was captured by Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen, along with the Green Mountain Boys. This successful capture resulted in the patriots gaining supplies they needed,such as ammo.

    The Second Contiental Congress met on this day. They discussed several topics. They met in Philadelphia. During this meet,they came up with the Declaration of Independence, where they made their own laws and declared war on Britian.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill was another fight between the British and the patriots. This was actually fought on Breed's Hill! The patriots fought strong, but had to retreat because of low ammo. Even though this was British victory, they suffered heavy losses, with over 800 wounded and 226 killed. This battle showed that patriots could stand up to Britan!

    After being a great soldier in previous battles, George Washington was named commander-in-chief on July 3.1775. This was an advandage to the patriots,as he would be a very good commander.

    This battle was fought by partiots and British soldiers defending Quebec City. This battle was the first major loss of the patriots,and it came with heavy losses. Several patriots were killed and 400 taken prisoner. Benedict Arnold was one of the wounded in this battle.

    The British had to evacuate Boston after George Washington and his troops had secretly placed cannons in the fortification. The British realized they could not protect Boston, and evacuated.

    The Declaration of Independence was a 4 section paper. The first section was the Preamble,or why it was written. The second was the Declaration of Natural Rights,which were rights that could not be taken away,such as life,liberty,and the pursuit of happyness.The third was the List of Grievances,which is a bunch of things King George did. The last part was the Resolution of Independence,which asked you to join. This Declaration was trying to get lower wealth classes to join in the fight.

    This battle was a major victory for the British. Washington and his troops were trying to defend the New York ports. They then thought that Manhattan was going to be attacked so they moved troops there. Unfourtunatly,the British landed on Long Island instead,and suprise attacked the patriots. Panicking, they were easily defeated,but avoided capture thanks to Maryland troops. All of Washington and his troops were pushed out of New York. Nathan Hale died here.

    After the defeat of the patriots in the Battle of Long Island, the patriots were pushed out and the British occupied New York. This lowered the ego for some patriots.

    The Battle of Trenton started when George Washington decided to cross the Delaware River. This made it possible to ambush unexpecting Hessians (Hired German soldiers for the British). This was a very big moral boost for the patriots, because they made it in and captured 900 Hessians along with no patriots dying!

    After the Battle of Saratoga, the British had a change of plans. They decided they would try to capture Philadelphia, the home of the Second Continental Congress. It was a hard trek, and several patriot attacks tried to stop them,but the British, commanded by William Howe,successfully captured Philadelphia.

    General Sir Henry Clinton, the commander-in-chief of the British forces based in New York City, dispatched Campbell and a 3,100 man force from New York to capture Savannah, and begin the process of returning Georgia to British control. He was successful and capture a portion of the patriots and force the others to retreat.

    At Yorktown,a battle insued between 2,500 Washington men and 5,000 Virginia men and 4,000 French men VS the British. The British were defeated. 7,000 British soldiers were sent to help,but were too late. General Cornwallis surrendered 7,087 officers and men, 900 seamen, 144 canons, 15 galleys, a fridate and 30 transport ships. The Americans had won the war.
