    Kicked off the American Revolutionary War. Tension had been building up years between residents of the 13 colonies and the British authorities.
    Outcome; Colonist did not show great marksmen ship. 3,500 militiamen were firing constantly for 18 miles and only killed/wounded roughly 250 British troops compared to 90 killed/wounded on their side.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Also known as breeds hill was the first major battle of the american revolution fought in Charleston. British won but it was a pytthic victory.
    Outcome; It lent considerable encouragement to the revolutionary war.
  • Battle of Long Island

    The British army successfully moved against the american continental army led by George Washington. The battle was part of a campaign to sieze control of New York and isolate New England from the rest of the colonies.
    Outcome; Washington's defeat could have led to a surrender but his ingenuity allowed him to escape and continue the fight.

    George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware river on christmas day. Over the course of 10 days they won the next two crucial battles. In trenton Washington defeated garrison of hessian mercenaries before withdrawing.
    Outcome;Washington's men marched to Morristown in New Jersey where they established winter quarters safe from British incrusions

    The battle of saratoga was the turning point in the revolutionary war 5,895 British and hessian troops surrendered.
    Outcome; Convinced the french governed to recognize the colonist and finally enter the war as their ally.
  • Battle of Vincennes

    Battle of Vincennes
    The battle of Vincennes was a revolutionary battle fought in present day Vincennes. Won by local militia led by American Commander George Rogers Clark over the British garrison led by lieutenant Govener Henry Hamilton.
    Outcome; For many of George Clarks victories like this one people would call him a pirate and he did not like this.

    During the American Revolution the u.s ship bohomme Richard commanded by John Paul Jones win a hard fought engagement against the British ships
    Outcome;Later jones moved his command to the Serapis James outlasted his adversary and forced a surrender.

    Americans suffer their worst defeat of the revolution on this day in 1780 with the major surrender of General Benjamin Lincoln.
    Outcome; After the humilliation he turned the tables and forced General cornwallis to surrender to George Washington at YorkTown on October 20

    The battle of Guilford Courthouse proved pivotal to the american victory in the American Revolutionary war(1775-83). British troops under command of general wallis did score a tactical victory though.
    Outcome; Cornwallis did not pursue Greene's army. Instead the British commander abandon his campaign for the carolinas and led his troops to Virginia .

    General Washington commanded and a army of 17,000 French and continental troops and began the siege against British general Charles Cornwallis and a contigent 9,000 British troops at YorkTown. This was one of the most important battles in the american revolutionary war.
    Outcome; The french naval block the British from escaping by sea and cornwallis surrenders to General George Washington and the patriots and the colonies gain independence from the British.
